Ridiculous

I have a friend, whom I don't know very well, but we all know each other because we have the same group of friends back in the old days.

Yeah his A level grades weren't good enough to enter the local universities. So off he went packing to Michigan to do his degree, with a father mother scholarship

The system is ridiculous also, considering that you can exempt close to one year of credits because the basic math and fundamentals that you do in first year is equivalent to our college's syllabus back here. And so, you complete your degree in a short span of 3 years, and you ace your degree considering the amount of MCQ final year exams being given.

Come back Singapore, get hired by ***, with a 10k month salary.

ALL BECAUSE,
you studied overseas

It's not ridiculous.

It's FUCKING ridiculous. Lol.
And you wonder why the rich get richer.

NUS, wake up, NUS wake up.

Yawn

I'm bored from doing Tutorial 6 in the morning. Yes you heard it right. Tutorial 6. If you were wondering why you, a NUS student is only at Tutorial 3 while I'm at 6, that's because I have nothing better to do other than to cut down more trees with my mathematical scribblings.

I think after spending 1.5 months in Singapore, since my return from Canada, I just find many stark contrasts between us and the fellow Americanos. Not that it's for the worse or anything. Just different.

We Singaporeans are indeed a nonchalant lot. If America has its fair share of rude fuckheads and inconsiderate pieces of shit, coupled with its extremely friendly and courteous citizens who never fail to accompany a smile with their "Thank you's, Welcome's, e.t.c", we Singaporeans are simply the average of the extremities of the former, completely oblivious to acts of goodwill, gratifying gestures and courtesy.

Ok I think rap is decent, though not exactly my cup of tea. Justified that I hear it all over the place in America and Canada considering it originated from there. But to hear it being blasted on a loudspeaker of a mobile phone is pretty distasteful. And I do find it strange when there's a certain group of people who always think they are them, walking like them, talking like them, BUT they are not THEM. Next time you see a mobile phone blasting its throaty rap song, take a look and see what you observe.

If you think Singapore is damn expensive, maybe you need to spend 4 months in UK or North America to get a good wake up call. Heavy taxation, high cost of living, US/CAD 6 or 7 Pounds for a pretty dull looking plate of fish and chips. Come on. Singapore ain't that bad.

Yeah. They are much more vocal alright. Rattling their thoughts off when they feel like it. Whether processed thoroughly in the cerebral cortex is another story altogether. Us? We like to keep quiet. We snigger when we know we eventually get the correct answer, even though we are prompted to answer or suggest. We like to hear pin-drop silence when a question is posed, yet chitter chatter like monkeys fitted with energizer batteries after the end of class.

Oh and damn. I hate the weather back here. I prefer dry and flaky skin anytime haha. I think I ran out of things to say. To busy remembering how to use colour pencils.

PaPapapaAPaPayyy Day

Eh? I realized I haven't blogged for quite a long time.

Pay day is next week. Yup the time of the week where all my tuition students hand their cheques to me for cashing in. Ka Ching!

I remember reading the papers a couple of weeks back, where inflation rates was reported to be fluttering high up in the sky, affecting many poor families on a whole. I do find it alarming that I dabble in part time work on weekends, and yet earn more than the maybe the slightly below average Singaporean household combined income.

They might have their grouses with the rising costs of flour, sugar, petrol, just about anything you can place a price tag on, opting for cheaper household brands instead of the more established ones, while I sit back and relax on my chair, churning out formula after formula, thinking of what to teach my students come the weekend.

Now now. Is there something wrong? Or is tuition such a niche job that commands a significant renumeration rate? Well I mean yeah that's true. How many tutors can go on the spot, prove Euler's Formula without batting much of an eyelid, shoving the GC into the student's face and teaching him how to evaluate definite integrals, creating questions on the spot.

Ok I think u might have gotten the point.

BUT that's besides the point.

The point is that, I work for 2 days, study, exercise, play, shop, stone on the other 5 days and I can still earn an equivalent wage comparable to some families. Which means that there really are quite a lot of poor families out there in the demographics.

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer don't you think?

The rich.
They send their children to international schools like Hwa Chong, ACS, SJI.
They send their children overseas after college to rub shoulders with the ivy leagues.
They network their children into internships and jobs with law firms, investment banks, consultancy firms, the Big 4.
The rich know more of the rich and self sustain one another through their firm bonds of elitism.

The poor.
Making ends meet for even the simplest of staples, hoping that their children will grow up not having to live the life they once lived.
Unable to afford the school fees required to send their children to the best schools, even though they fall short of the cut off points.
They hope their children will land a place for themselves into the ***-infested local universities.
The only way out for their children is through the long arduous path of doing extremely well to earn a scholarship or a coveted spot in that all important brand name school.

I know. It's a simplistic view. But hey, there's still some slight semblance of weight in my statement.

Sometimes, I think inflation simply reflects society's desire to get rich.
Nonono, you don't aim to earn enough from your investment yields to overcome the inflation rates.
You aim to earn more than the sum of the rest of your fellow primates' desire for wealth.

Afterall, man rises the price of his own goods.

Eh wait. I'm guilty of it too. Wait a minute.... The flour and sugar makers chose to deviate from their prices..... no wonder.. my trigger strategy for tuition is...

maybe game theory makes sense afterall.

Zi Mo

The most common questions that I always get, (and maybe for you folks out there reading my blog who might be able to relate), would probably be something along these lines:

"Have you graduated?"

"Where is your girlfriend? Why never bring?"

"Why still so skinny?"

"You still look so fair!"

"What are you doing after you graduate?"

Haha. The questions never change year after year. Always the same old stuff. Sometimes I'm just inclined to return the favour by being...... irritating, such as:

"Wow. You look fat!"

"Huh? New girlfriend?"

"Eh, go dye your hair black la. So white."

"You forgot my ang pao."

"You've grown uglier..."

"Skinny? You need to take a good look at yourself in the mirror first."

Ok. I should stop being such a jackass.

In the meantime, it's day 1 of CNY. and i shall attempt to do some work, because........... next week is a busy week. busy, because we'll be busy with each other. woohooo

Eh

Eh i think the world is getting more screwed up.

And it seems, it's getting all so screwed up because of one simple issue. Money. It has become a world where capitalism rears its ugly hydra head, decapitating the innocent commoners who are subjected to the inevitable relentless recessional assault.

Where opportunity for money to be made, at the expense of another.

Where the delusion of investment subterfuges the spinning roulette tables and jackpot machines ubiquitous throughout the entire stock market.

Where landing yourself in a job in the financial and banking sector equates simply to just one thing, the goal of making more money.

I think the world is starting to be a very scary place to live in. If there's a new terrorist on the block, it might very well be that rectangular-shaped looking piece of paper squatting inside your wallet.
